Rooted in Nigerian-American cultural heritage. Inspired by global Blackness. Committed to innovation, functionality, aesthetic & community, Chop YAM seeks to redesign the quintessential puffer coat & produce outerwear staples using denim.
COLORS, TEXTILES & LANGUAGE
Chop YAM injects Nigerian-American cultural heritage into the design process by using the denim textile, native language and cohesive color palettes reminiscent of founder Willis’ childhood times spent in Nigeria, America, Cote D'Ivoire and South Africa.
TO CHOP OR NOT TO CHOP? DECISIONS AND MAKINGS OF A Chop YAM COAT.
Making - Chop YAM uses Ecodown® insulation by Thermore®. Ecodown® is a recycled polyester filling made from 100% post-consumer plastic bottles.
Decisions - Chop YAM has an uncompromising approach to quality & waste which is why we don't do standard market collections; we opt to use raw denim for all of our coats and we try to limit the amount of sampling we do per season.
Making - Chop YAM outerwear is made in Chicago, IL & Nigeria.
Decisions - In an effort to foster community around the vision of Chop YAM, we have quarterly newsletters where we keep you updated about everything happening with the brand, warts & all.
